Normally, I avoid the famed Tehachapi Loop like the plague, as I'm not into the carnival-like atmosphere and I prefer solitude, and to photograph, quite literally, off the beaten track, pun intended. However, the Tehachapi Loop is world-famous and one of the wonders of the railroad world.  I hadn't been to the Loop for, something like 20 years, so on Saturday, March 26, 2005, I decided to pay a visit, as I was heading back to Mojave from a day of photographing the Cliff/Rowen area.

The photos really don't do justice to the weirdness you can see in this place.  Note the kid in the tree, the guy walking his dog between the tracks (not a good idea) and the colorfully dressed photographers.  If you like plenty of company, the Tehachapi Loop is the place to be on a Saturday afternoon.

After snapping the photo of the southbound BNSFcontainer train, I left.  It might be another 20 years before I visit the Loop again.
