If you want everything that railfanning in North America can offer, namely, lots of trains, breathtaking scenery and solitude, BNSF's Needles Subdivision will deliver the merchandise to you.  You can expect 80 or 90 trains a day, so keep your camera ready.  If you miss a train, or goof-up a shot, oh well, as likely you'll see another train in 10 or 15 minutes.  Click on the thumbnail of choice to visit BNSF's busy Needles Subdivision with me.  However, be prepared, as the desert landscape is very inhospitable and water is non-existant...

December 31, 2008:  My brother Paul and I railfan just west of Ludlow and catch a lot of New Year's Eve action, BNSF style.

September 15, 2005:  I spend a pleasant afternoon watching BNSF cross the mighty Colorado River, east of Needles, and have a much-too-close encounter with PG&E's goon squad.

May 28, 2005:  My brother Paul and I railfan Ash Hill, which is known for the ruling grade on the entire Needles Subdivision.

July 11, 2003:  Combine hot weather, hot action and vintage power to make this a trip to remember.

June 19, 2003:  We spend a hot morning railfanning west of Ludlow, from mile post 694.7, which is one of the best photo locations on the entire subdivision.
