Whether your passion is skiing, football, sewing, or tiddlywinks, every sport or hobby has it's rules and protocol, as does life in general.  Also, the more you know about your passion, the more you'll get out of it, and it will seem more worthwhile and enjoyable.  I consider railfanning a cross between a sport and a hobby, as my style of railfanning combines elements from both genres.  Now I can already hear the purists shouting, "Railfanning is a hobby and not a sport!..."  but if NASCAR can be considered a sport, can't railfanning, especially the brand that I practice, be considered a sport?  Click on the links below to see how I approach the railfan sport... or is it a hobby?

What is Railfanning?:  My definition of the sport and hobby of observing railroads in action...

Railfan 101:  How I approach the hobby, what I bring, how I equip my truck, and a whole lot more...

Railfan Do's and Don'ts:  Things to avoid and things to do to make railfanning enjoyable and safe...

I suppose that you could equaite this section to a F.A.Q. section found on many websites, as this sort of explains about the approach that I take to railfanning.  Truly, railfanning is a fascinating, dynamic sport and hobby, that is basically, "anything that you want it to be."  You can take the high or the low approach, as it's up to you.  Observe a few "do's and don'ts," be save, have fun, and I'll see you by the tracks...
