February 28, 2004 - This was a quick and easy trip, as I was on my way home from one of my four-wheeling trips and I found myself with a little extra time to kill. So, since the scanner was handy, my brain told me, " Why not check out Blue Canyon again, as it is on the famous Donner Pass Overland route?" Brain dictates, body does... So I turned off the interstate, and went down the freshly-paved 2-something lane road that leads downhill to the tracks. I went up to the "town," turned around and parked near the tracks. Check out my previous article about Blue Canyon to read about my encounters with the mean dog. However, this time, I just showed him my shovel and he went his way, to leave me alone. I'm not so inclined to think that he remembered me, but perhaps the shovel put the fear of Job into his little brain.
Left: Not one of my better photos, but it shows you what Blue Canyon looks like in the February snow on a clear, sunny, day. Right: A few minutes later, I was able to photograph another U.P. eastbound through the snow at Blue Canyon. After sitting around for a couple of hours during a slow day, and only catching two trains, it was time to head home. No, these are not the best photos that I've taken in my raifan career. But, at least you'll know, I am active. But one thing I can say about this trip, is that it was another happy day of railfanning
