How many tourists actually leave Av. Revolucion and dare to take a hike a few short blocks west to see how the real residents of Tijuana live, work and play? If you want to see where real Tijuana residents live, just head a few blocks west on Calle 4 or 5, past Parque Teniente Guerrero and you'll immediately be imersed in residental Tijuana.
Photos: I'm actually in the U.S., looking over the ugly border fence in for foreground, but these photos will give you a good idea of what a hilly, Tijuana neighborhood looks like.
Photos: The city of Tijuana is situated in hills and canyons, and these photos show how the buildings cling to the hillsides.
Left: I'm hiking up Calle 6, and looking west just past the intersection of Calle 6 and Av. Cristobol Colon. Right: Middle-class houses cling to a hillside just west of Av. Buenos Aires, which features a fine view of downtown Tijuana and the U.S.A.
Left: I'm looking west on Calle 4 as it climbs the hill and eventually becomes Calle Lisbona. Right: The intersection of Calle 6 and Av. Cristobol Colon features well-kept, middle-class houses. Despite popular misconceptions, Tijuana features many safe, friendly, well-kept neighborhoods. Copyright(c) 2005 eRench Productions, Inc. All rights reserved.
