El Rosario doesn't offer a lot of choices in lodging, as the small town features exactly two motels, but if you decide that El Rosario isn't the place that you'd like to spend the night, then you have a nearly 200 mile south, to the nearest motel, in Negro Guerrero, in Baja California Sur. But, why not stay in beautiful El Rosario, as it's a friendly town, located in a scenic canyon, and the town offers delightful lodging, at La Cabaña Motel, which is located on the east side of the highway, only a couple blocks south of the Pemex gas station. Five star lodging it isn't, but it's a friendly, comfortable motel, that's located within walking distance of everything that El Rosario has to offer. At the price of MEX $300.00 for a huge room, suitable for four people, it's a real bargain.
Photo: La Cabaña Motel is located only a couple of blocks south of the Pemex gas station, on the east side of the highway, next to landmark restaurant, Mama Espinosa. Yes, that's my green 1996 Toyota Camry in the center of the photo, parked inside the motel. La Cabaña Motel is located only a couple of blocks south of the Pemex gas station, on the east side of the highway, next to landmark restaurant, Mama Espinosa. From the outside, its an attractive, two-story motel, that is beautifully landscaped, and features a coin-operated laundry, a rarity in Mexico, and ample parking. Plus, it's one of two motels in town, so it could be considered the next-to-the-only-game-in-town. However, the management doesn't seem to feel that they're somewhat exclusive, as the motel features friendly staff and cheap, rock-bottom rates; but there are a few wrinkles behind the handsome facade.
Photo: I just had to snap a photo of the beautiful girl who took my money. Lots of four wheeler enthusiasts and dirt bike riders choose to spend the night in El Rosario, as the area offers lots of trails to explore... Friday, October 5, 2007, I arrived late in the afternoon, and I wanted, correct... I needed a room, as it was late, and where else could I go? La Cabaña Motel occupies a prime location in town, as its located just south of the Pemex gas station, and if you're looking for a motel, you can't miss it. Surprise! When you sign in at the office, you're greeted by an attractive, friendly señorita, who will greet you with a smile, and only charge you MEX $300.00, for a spacious, comfortable room.
Photo: Inside room number 3, and a look at the spacious room and the double bed. I was given the key to room number 3, which was great, as it was a downstairs room and I was able to park my car next to the room. As I unlocked the door to room number 3, what a surprise, as the room was HUGE for a motel room, and featured a queen-sized double bed and two single beds. The major surprise was that the room is heated by a wood-burning stove, complete with a cache of wood placed next to the stove. The could be described as basic, as beside the wood stove, the room featured tile floors and open beam, wood ceilings. I was staying in the place by myself for only MEX $300.00; the motel room could sleep 4 folks; do the math, and you'll find the price is very inexpensive. In addition to inexpensive prices, I was able to walk to two very fine taquerias, located only a quarter of a mile away from the motel.
Photo: Check out the wood stove! I love a motel room that features rustic decor. There's a huge plus to staying at La Cabaña Motel, is that you're located next door to El Rosario landmark restaurant Mama Espinosa. You only have to walk out of your motel room, cross the parking lot, and you're at Mama's, which is only a 30-second trip. Yet during my stay at La Cabaña Motel, somehow I missed visiting Mama's place. Well, I'll save Mama Espinosa for my next visit to El Rosario. The queen-sized double bed was comfy, and inviting, as the mattress was firm, and the bedding was soft. The bathroom was clean, and the hot water actually worked, which is a rarity for motels in small-town Baja California. I was treated to a relaxing night's sleep.
Photo: Here are the two single beds. La Cabaña Motel offers a huge value for your dollar, and its clean and everything sort of works most of the time. The next morning, my serenity was broken, as when I attempted to take a morning shower, I couldn't get any hot water. Like in many motels in Baja California, hot warning is hard to come by for your morning shower, as Mexican's aren't used to morning showers, so if any shower issues exist, then the shower is usually taken off-line during morning hours. Its a fact of life in Baja California, so you have to approach the issue with the "no problema" state of mind.
Photo: La Cabaña Motel employs a staff of five, and they're all females, which adds to the "eye candy" when you're visiting beautiful El Rosario. As I gave the room key back to the clerk in the office, I asked her about the shower. She shrugged and smiled, and told me that the hot water doesn't usually work in the morning, as that's just the way it is. Whatever! For me, it's not a problem, as when I'm visiting Baja California, I have not problems!
