In early October, sunrise happens at Bahia de Los Angeles, shortly after 6 in the morning, and on most mornings, you're treated to a spectacular sunrise, as the sun rises over the Sea of Cortez to the east, and cast reflections and its warm, golden light on the craggy, desert, mountains, and the deep, blue sea.  If you're an early riser, a sunrise at Bahia de Los Angeles is something that you don't want to miss.

Photo:  This family is camped along the beach, in a free beach camping area, just east of the Hotel Hamacas, where I was staying, near friendly palapa, and enjoy the use of their sailboat, anchored nearby.  It's a false dawn over the beautiful Sea of Cortez, and everything is quiet and peaceful.

There are numerous campsites, motels and RV parks located near the beach, so finding a place to view the sunrise isn't difficult, as the town faces the east, and the sunrise, across the beautiful Sea of Cortez is easy to view from anyplace in town.  The view is not only spectacular, but it takes your breath away, as its just that beautiful.

Thursday, October 4, 2007, I got up well before sunrise so I could snap a few photos of the sun rising over the clear, calm waters of the Sea of Cortez.  Picture this:  There is no wind, the sea is as smooth as a piece of glass, the temperature is about 75 degrees, and you're standing next to the beach, with digital camera in hand, taking in one of the most beautiful sunrises that you can imagine.  As you walk next to the beach, you can hear the gentle sound of the wave lapping on the sandy beach; the tide isn't more than a few feet, and you can smell, yes you really can smell the fishy, salty smell of the Sea of Cortez, coming from the clear, blue water.  Outside of the lapping of the waves and the screaming of the sea gulls, everything is very quiet and peaceful.

Photo:  Beachcombing is a popular activity, and these guys are taking advantage of the cooler temperatures enjoyed at dawn, to see that the morning tide has to offer.

As you watch the sun rise, you just can't help admire the beautiful, blue water of the Sea of Cortez, and the desert islands that rise out of the water, in the background, which help make sunrise so spectacular.  In the foreground, you'll be treated to views of Isla la Ventana, Isla Cabeza de Caballo, Islas los Gemelitos, and in the background, almost appearing as mainland Mexico, you'll be treated to the view of the huge island, Isla Angel de la Guarda. Sunrise is truly a spectacular time to admire the spectacular scenery that is found at Bahia de Los Angeles!

Photo:  Launching fishing boats from the public boat ramp at dawn.  This photo is one of my favorites, and at this writing, it is used a wallpaper in my notebook computer, so every time I boot up, I'm reminded of a beautiful morning in Bahia de Los Angeles.
