Bahia de Los Angeles is considered one of the most scenic places on the eastern coast of the Baja California, as the town is situated on an alluvial slope, which rises up to the desert mountains, Sierra Cinta de la Cantera rising steeply in the background, to the azure blue waters of the Sea of Cortez to the east. Bahia de Los Angeles in situated amid truly spectacular surroundings, and you could describe the place as where desert mountains meet the sea.
Photo: Looking due east over the Sea of Cortez, from the hill overlooking town, toward distant Isla Angel de la Guarda, which appears to be the size of mainland Mexico. Notice the developments and campers, located on the beach. As you're driving into town, along the road from Highway 1 to Bahia de Los Angeles, there is a dirt road that leads to a small hill, overlooking the town, and the Sea of Cortez. If you're driving into town, especially in the late afternoon, you must pull over, and park on the hill and enjoy the view of the impossibly blue Sea of Cortez, and the islands that jut from the blue water. This is one of the most spectacular vistas in all of Baja California, as you view the beautiful Sea of Cortez, and many beautiful, desert islands, including, isla la Ventana, Isla Cabeza de Caballo, Isla el Projo, Isla de Borrego, Isla la Calvera and the giant island, Isla Angel de la Guarda, in the distance, which to the uninformed, would seem to be mainland Mexico. From this vantage point, the town of Bahia de Los Angels can be seen, as it's only about three miles away to the south east.
Photo: As you crest the hill coming to town, you're greeted with this spectacular view of the Sea of Cortez, and the many islands... The late afternoon sun will be to your back, and the sun will cast warm, mellow rays across the desert islands, over the blue Sea of Cortez, and the warmth will enhance the natural beauty. To me, it's a warm, mellow, "Kodachrome moment!"
Photo: Huge Isla Angel de la Guarda is in the background, but from left to right: Unnamed small rock, Isla el Borrego, and Isa la Ventana. These beautiful desert islands can be seen from the spectacular overlook, only a couple of miles west of town. You can clearly see how the town is situated between the desert mountains and the blue sea, and although it doesn't appear to have been surveyed, and is laid out somewhat haphazardly, whatever the town lacks in man-made beauty, the spectacular natural scenery more then compensates from whatever the town lacks in cultural wonders. The surrounding desert mountains are beautiful, and the many, dramatic islands rise out of the blue Sea of Cortez, just offshore. Bahia de Los Angeles is situated in some of the most dramatic, beautiful, desert scenery that you'll ever have the pleasure to enjoy.
Photo: A spectaculor view of Bahia de Los Angeles, seen from a hill only a couple miles west of town. This photo gives you an idea of the the town is layed out, north-to-south, between the Sea of Cortez and the alluvial fan that rises west toward the Sierra la Libertad mountain range. Enjoy the photos, enjoy the scenery, and enjoy beautiful, scenic Bahia de Los Angeles with me...
