The economy of the small Baja California town of Bahia de Los Angeles is mostly based on tourism, and if care to narrow that description down, you could state that most of the tourism is based on sport fishing, as the Sea of Cortez offers some of the best sport fishing in the world.  Most sport fishing means boats, and most sport fishing boats need to be launched, as they're imported on boat trailers from places outside of Bahia de Los Angeles, and for that matter, out of Baja California, or even the country of Mexico.  So add up the facts: Tourism, plus fishing, plus boats and what do you have?   ... Bahia de Los Angeles!

Photo:  This guy is launching his "boat" at dawn, just north of the boat ramp, but he's doing it the hard way.  Note how calm the water of the Sea of Cortez is.

Bahia de Los Angeles is not a commercial fishing port, as the town does not offer a deepwater harbor, or docking facilities suitable for ocean going vessels, but it is a paradise for sport fishermen, as all of the major R.V. parks, such as Guillermo's or La Rosa offer boat launching.  Bahia de Los Angeles includes a wonderful, paved public boat launching area on the south side of town, just before the paved main street takes a hard turn to the west.  No fee is charged for launching your boat, and there is plenty of nearby free, safe parking to park your rig after you've launched your boat and you're enjoying the fabulous fishing that the Sea of Cortez has to offer.  If you're a bit unsure of Mexican fishing regulations, there are plenty of signs spelling out the regulations, and if you lack a Mexican fishing license, there are plenty of nearby bait and tackle shops who will gladly help you with all of your fishing, and legal needs.

Photo:  Note that the public boat ramp extends far into the water, and its grooved to allow good traction.  I take a photo of these guys launching their sport fishing boat; I suppose they're in for a productive day of fishing, as the Sea of Cortez is noted for its abundance of fish.

Photo:  Close-up photo of the boat launch.  The water is so warm, you can wade in it, or swim in it all day, if you choose to do so.

Photo:  These guys spent most of their time bear the boat ramp.  Note the piece of fish that they're enjoying for a meal.

Launching your boat is quite simple at the "Rampa Publica," as all you have to do is back up, float your boat in the water, and launch it.  Secure your boat, and pull your rig off the ramp, and park it at one of the many free parking spots.  If you're staying at Guillermo's, you can watch the whole operation from your motel room, and you can park your rig on their spacious grounds, but if you're not staying at nearby Guillermo's you can still park your rig on the street, and enjoy the world-famous fishing that the Sea of Cortez has to offer.

Photo:  These guys have just recovered their boat, and they're about to head south on the paved, unnamed main street in town.  Note at the top of the photo how the pavement ends very abruptly.

Enjoy the photos, as they will give you a good idea of the beauty, and the simplicity of launching your sport fishing boat at the "Rampa Publica," in beautiful Bahia de Los Angeles.
