The unpaved East Side Road, that runs north from Chapala, on Highway 1, along the Sea of Cortez to Puertecitos, has acquired the deserved reputation of being one of the worst roads in the State of Baja California.  If you're wondering if the reputation is true, click on the link of choice to ride the notorious East Side Road with me...

Chapala to Coco's Corner:  You leave Highway 1 at Chapala, and its 13 hard, dusty miles to Coco's Corner, that will take you over an hour to travel.

Coco's Corner to Gonzaga Bay:  Twenty two miles of washboarded, bone-jarring, dirt road misery, through some of the most beautiful, unforgiving and remote desert country that you've ever seen.

Gonzaga Bay to San Juan del Mar:  Only about 30 miles, but the trip will take nearly three hours, but who cares, as road hugs the shoreline, and provides breathtaking views of the azure blue Sea of Cortez.

San Juan del Mar to San Felipe:  The road leaves sea level and climbs spectacular hills, offers scenic views, and vehicle challenges, before paved road is reached, just south of Puertecitos.
