Back to Coco's Corner

Over the years, Coco has amassed quite a collection of "stuff," that ranges everywhere from household items, to eighteen wheelers, and all of this fantastic memorabilia decorates Coco's Corner, located on the gravel road, between Chapala and Gonzaga Bay, in the Baja California desert.  What plans Coco has for this "stuff" is anybody's guess, unfortunately during my visit on September 30, 2008, Coco was in Ensenada, undergoing an operation.

Photo:  Looking from the west side of the campground, towards Coco's Café, framed by a fence decorated with empty beer cans.  When the wind blows, the beer cans clank and tinkle.  It is said that Coco's Corner can be seen from space.

Photo:  Coco's truck fleet, parked in a corner of the campground.  The International looked like it could possibly be coaxed to life, but the Kenworth was literally shot full of holes.

Photo:  Two of Coco's vehicles await repairs.  I wonder why the TV set is placed on top of the cab?

I spent an hour or so at Coco's Corner, looking around, and taking lots of photos.  My ambassador was a scrawny cat, who seemed starved for attention, as she followed me practically everywhere.  Coco's Corner is remote, as during my visit, not a single vehicle passed by on the dirt road, which leads north to Gonzaga Bay, and eventually to San Felipe, and points north.

Photo:  Coco keeps lots of spare parts on hand, including this axle and differential.  Note the fact that Coco is a firm believer in "branding" everything.

Photo:  This truck has been "branded" with a non-existent web site address to Coco's Corner.  I actually plugged in the domain name, and Google told me that it had expired.  Does Coco use the TV on top of the truck as an Internet monitor?

Photo:  This skinny cat followed me wherever I went, and was very friendly, and starved for attention.  I left her a large pan of water, but I didn't have anything else to give her.

Most of my time, I puzzled over why Coco has collected all of these treasures, and what, if anything, he plans to do with them.  As the saying goes, one man's junk is another man's treasure, and Coco must consider all of these things as heirlooms, or something very special.

Photo:  I wonder how many years this electric typewrite has been sitting out in the desert air?

Photo:  Another one of Coco's television sets, this one is a little worse for wear.

Photo:  This is Coco's personal truck, and it looks like it could run.  The loudspeaker isn't attached to the truck, as its attached to the fence, but the CB antenna is, and if proudly flies the Mexican flag.
