I'm a big fan of street photography, and in a place like Ensenada, I go crazy.

If you're not familiar with street photography, it's the art of taking spontaneous photos of unsuspecting people, places and things going about life and doing that they do everyday. You combine it with people-watching and it becomes as addicting as booze or cocaine.

Left:  This coconut vendor doesn't look too happy as I snap his photo.  Note the female vendor to the left; she sells homemade honey for a living.  Right:  One of the many mariscos vendors in downtown Ensenada.

So you grab your camera, take a hike, and keep your camera ready and your eyes open.  And you will burn lots of film, or if you're digitally-inclined, you will use lots of memory.

Left:  On a fine Sunday afternoon, an accordion player serenades the crowd along the Malecon.  Right:  Near the fish market, I snap the photo of some party-animal locals.

In April of 2005, I spent portions of a couple of days hiking around Ensenada taking photos of people and things going about life's everyday, familiar chores. I'm especially fascinated with the colorful food vendors, so I managed to take many photos on that subject. I just wish my digital camera could capture the smells of the street, as that would add another fascinating dimension.

Left:  One of the many colorful street vendors makes a sale.  Right:  I love this photo!  I catch a street vendor taking a break in downtown Ensenada.

The only way to savor the earthy beauty of Mexico is to get out of your car and walk.  That way, you get a chance to mingle with the people and really experience life in a different environment.

If you like street photography, Ensenada is the place to be.

Left:  I wonder what this gal does for a living?  Right:  Across the street from the gal in the photo to the left, I caught this gentleman taking a nap in an alley.  It was about 1700 in the afternoon.  He must have had a hard day at one of the nearby strip clubs.

Left:  This gal works at one of the seafood taco restaurants located near the fish market.  How could I resist snapping her photo when she gave me a pose like this?  Right:  A busy scene near the seafood market as one of the many coconut vendors is highlighted.
