Welcome to the 34th Annual Hi Desert Round-Up, "A Long Road Home," in a salute to our troops, held May 27 to 30th, 2005, at Stoddard Valley, near the Mojave desert down of Barstow.  Click on the thumbnail of choice to enlarge and read the feature article that it represents.

Here's an overview of HDR and a little bit about the author of this article.

I spent a bit of time wandering around HDR base camp, taking photos of almost everything.

A Safety check is mandatory at all CA4WD events, inlcuding High Desert Roundup.

After the safety check, you go to registration to register, and then signup for your run of choice.

We chose the Blue Moon trail, led by Jesse May and hosted by the Dirt Devils 4WDC.

Perhaps the best part of the event is Chef Andy's Saturday night barbecue dinner.

Here's a look at Chef Andy's Ruff Rock Run Cafe, at Hi Desert Round-up, 2005.

Horseshoe Pitching has the passenger get out and throw horseshoes.

The idea of the Articulation Ramp is to see how far up you can drive.

Drive around the track as fast as you can without losing the ball, that's the Ball Buster.

Can and Stick Race is fast-paced and a lot of fun to watch.

Potato Race has the driver and passenger team-up for a wild time of stabbing potatos.

Teeter-Totter is a real balancing act for trucks.  It's harder than it looks...

Wet Lap is the perfect game for a hot day in the desert.

The idea of the Turtle Race is to see how slow you can go. Extra-low gears are a real plus.

Here's a look at how Paul and I camped, tent-style, in High Desert suburbia.
