Whitney Classic is a grueling bicycle endurance ride of nearly 135 miles, with an elevation gain of around 15,000 feet! I worked as a member of the radio communications team, for the 2009 ride. Click on the link of interest below, to read my account of the event. About Whitney Classic 2009: All about the event, my interesting drive to Lone Pine, and the "Sammers" and "Hammers" who make this event happen. Ham Radio Communications: Article about the ham radio communications used, and the people who made it happen. Lots of photos of the event, at various rest stops along the western half of the ride. VFW Hall Breakfast: The volunteers enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the local VFW Hall. Whitney Portal: My station was Whitney Portal, at the end of the event, and Murphy and his law buddies were my constant companions, as everything went wrong for me at Whitney Portal. Horseshoe Meadows Road: I had some time on my hands, so I took a side trip, up the east side of the Sierras, to scenic Horseshoe Meadows. Copyright(c) 2009 eRench Productions, Inc.
